Ranch to Nantucket

We worked with our clients to purchase a home in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. They fell in love with this cute, 1950s ranch tucked away on a large lot. Not necessarily intending to do a home remodel, but there were issues with the roof and chimney, which prompted them to think hard about the future of their new home. A home remodel was the way to go and was indeed part of their future. We devised a plan to add a second floor, which would allow them to have a large master suite and extra bedrooms. It was important to continue the cottage feel to which we lofted the second floor and continued the roof line for the ceiling in the family room. On the exterior we installed new cedar shake siding, created a concrete patio out front with cedar planking on the ceiling, and an expansive brick paver patio out the back.
